Paranoid Alarmist: Are you one?
Jul. 30th, 2003 01:17 pmAn addendum to my post about fandom yesterday:
So. It appears that half of fandom wants to have Alfonso Cuaron's babies, while the other half want to burn him in effigy.
Ah, the sky is falling, yet again.
Movie does not equal canon. It's a rare film that transcends its literary predecessor. The realm of novels and film are not the same - pacing issues, characters' usefulness to the plot, interpretation of the text through actors' movements and dress, location settings...
It's never going to be the way you see it your head, not even if you make the film yourself - there's always going to be something 'better' or 'more improved' dabbling in the horizon. I see the Harry Potter movie franchise as a completely separate world from the books, with visits to one another. If you love and cherish the books, keep on reading them. Write your fanfic, make your vids, compose long drawn out love sonnets to Snape and McGonagall, name your parakeet Fawkes....
Also, I think Alfonso Cuaron is a damn sight better than Chris Columbus.
I'm going to go and watch Y Tu Mama Tambien and sigh over Diego Luna now.
