about to crawl into bed early, for a change, as I officially did not sleep on Thursday evening - went to bed at about 4 in the morning (because when I got home early to begin my three day weekend, I crashed into my bed for a two hour nap). Sleep, it's what's for dinner.
But a happy early 4th of July to my fellow Americans and any one who just wants an excuse to light up fireworks, drink sangria and lemonade and roast dead beasts on fire pits...and lovers of independence, obviously.
I am continuing my epic Atashinchi no Danshi rewatch (the last episode! She is soft-subbed, and I'm assuming the hardsubs will now arrive in one complete batch?)
I still need to post the second part of my Sho/Chisato squeecapspam (now with extra PS paint arrows!), commentary on the finale, and of course, finishing the commentathon.
A teaser for
wistfulmemory for your prompt "gypsy"(though I'm kind of approaching it backwards, I think)

and a bit from my sequel to Some kind of happily ever after.

good night, try not to set yourselves or any free-standing wooden attractions on fire.

Jun. 23rd, 2009 05:52 amYes, the Atadan ending was open.
OPEN FOR PORN.
oh, the joy of taking things out of context.
And I'll be stunned if they don't do a SP for it.
eta: I did like the finale, very much and yes, I'm still very sad about the fact that one of my favorite shows is now over. Time to rewatch. And
yanie02 has translated some pertinent bits of the finale over at d-addicts thread for it, in case you want to be spoiled. :D
I'm silentblvd over there, so hey.

oh, ATADAN, I DON'T WANT TO QUIT YOU.
Jun. 21st, 2009 09:58 pmEpisode 10: Rebel Yell, or I couldn't use that other famous Billy Idol song because it's kind of Spoilerish, JUST GO WITH IT, OKAY.
Don't have the time currently to do a episode 10 specific capspam as have writing to finish and other capspams to complete and upload, and I figure since I'm going to be doing a giant epic rewatch of Atashinchi no Danshi in about a week anyway.....
yes, this my lame, let me show you it.
( THIS SHOW )
Just. So. Much. Flail.
Jun. 16th, 2009 05:58 amyou guys, I don't know how I'm going to cope when Atashinchi no Danshi ends next week, I love that family SO MUCH and I just want her to stay with them forever and oh my god, episode 10 threw a total curveball and AGGGHHHH, IT WAS SO GOOD BUT SO WTF IS GOING ON, and now I'm getting all capslocky remembering the moments.
Just....OT7 FOREVER.
this episode: the one where Saff shrieks, flails, and DIES.
( as a wise man once said, this shit just got REAL )

*note to self, when Moneypenny is functioning again, work on enormous icon batch for AtaDan, incredibly iconable
Hmmm, just as my subject line says. Waiting for Giri Giri to post the softsubs for AtaDan 9: where the eyeflirting and ambiguous glances are exchanged by many! (Like the title of the kdrama parody on MADTV!)
I'm going to be sad when my happy sunshine spring into summer show is over after episode 11. I mean, there's yakuza!Meisa to look forward to, but oh, Ookuras. I heart them so much as a family, and episode nine is full of the reasons why.
Anyway, have some scans from Junon (the clerks at Sanseido are so used to my schizophrenic, random purchases now. My recent haul was Mika Ninagawa's New Half mook - where I marvel at how much neon pink goes in on a MN photoshoot, and how the surgeons do really good work, but there's still some obvious tells, JUNON (I was so embarrassed by this. It's like the equivalent of buying um...Bop and erm, a teeny magazine when you're not a teeny anymore.), Men's Joker, FineBoys, and I was going to buy FRAU for the gorgeous mini insert of Kanjiya Shihori in wedding kimono attire, but decided to pass on it for next time. Seriously, I've always thought she was pretty but those pictures = super maximum gorgeousness.)
feel free to use for translations, graphics and the like. No reposting unless I do it (obviously), and credit
calledinvain if you're so inclined.

Both Yusuke and Koji have a pinup poster in this issue, and there's more with Yusuke as well, but they'll be posted later once I get my main computer issues sorted out.
And also, for fans of OTOMEN, as posted earlier - it's been turned into a live action drama, airing this summer on Fuji, a more extended cast list has been posted on Dramawiki, and it's certainly moved up on higher on my list of things to watch. There's a mix of the usual suspects (Fuji loves the Hana Kimi alums, plus it doesn't hurt that most of them have went on to become Big Names) and new people.
I've read scanlations of the first volumes and I know
meganbmoore likes it, but I'll be going into the drama manga blind. I think that helps with the experience, because I have no particular attachment to the manga whether it's mild amusement/like (Hana Kimi) or full out disdain (Hana Yori Dango).

oh week. You and I were getting along so well, and then today my car battery dies in the parking lot at work, I pay an obscenely unfair (IMO) price for the AAA battery, and now I'm poor and making cookies out of anger. Or maybe making cookies because my unhappiness at the petty annoyances in life needs sugar.
I've been really tired for some odd reason - I conked out at around 9:40 pm last night and slept the whole night through, but then at work, I kept on zoning out and catching myself awake - er, nodding off and then waking up really alarmed.
Like, I'm still at work? STILL?
Anyway, my most recent fannish bits of glee.
1. And I believe this is what they call the chase A Sho/Chisato drabble, because well, they have CONSUMED my brain. It was an unexpected delight in a gen pudding of hilarious family hijinks.
2. these broken days won't last forever, part one of a series of stories, very much with S/C in mind. But first let me talk about how much I dig his ex-wife/girlfriend.
3. Mukai Osamu's appearance on OSHAREISM with the preternaturally young Fujiki Naohito and the two other hosts. I have two words for you: HAND PORN. He has beautiful hands, the kind of hands that I somehow always associated with musicians (read: pianists and harpists) and always coveted. Alas, my peasant genes won out, and I do not have graceful fingers at all.
And also: Osamu/Alpaca. Their love is not to be DENIED.
4. Atashinchi no Danshi episode 9 : no, my battleship has not sunk. D knows when I nearly had a flail storm over the fact that Cute Guy ran after Maki's bus in Innocent Love - because yes I may scorn most 'pure love' stories, hate on the more treacley, obvious lifetime movie event moments in romance, but sometimes all a girl wants is a guy to run after her bus. Or train. I also accept running after a bicycle, but it better be raining.
( have a discarded Atadan ficbit -- nope, I'm not continuing it, it was a rough draft )

( oh really? )
Dramacrazy.net subbed Atashinchi no Danshi episode 8, and you guys, IT IS EVEN BETTER WITH SUBS.
I'm still going to watch it again tomorrow with GiriGiri's subs, because I love their notes and DC is good for a quick sub, but GG gets all the dialogue and so on.
That makes the viewing count for the entirety of AtaDan 8 well into the twenties, while fastforwarding to certain parts....
anyway, yes.
And I watched the first episode of BOSS, subbed and I can say that Mizobata Junpei is the woobiest rookie cop that ever woobied, Erika Toda's finally in a role where she doesn't annoy the snot out of me (I haven't really enjoyed any of her post NWP roles), I get to stare at Tetsuji Tamayama and Takenouchi Yutaka wearing suits all episode long, the lead character played by Amami Yuki is a stone cold fox (competency! it's so SEXY.), and while I worried that it'd be Sex in the City meets CSI (both shows I absolutely cannot stand), it managed to throw in a few surprises the first episode out. I might still give up on it, but right now, it's fulfilling the 'enjoy the dramaaaaa' standards I have.
So I've been keeping to my jlist so far: loving Atadan (obviously), suffering through SMILE (I still haven't finished watching episode 3 subbed - deux ex magical school girl is sparring for the anvils of Everyone Hates Jun because he's *Gasp* HALF-FILIPINO for why I am hating my drama watching life, and I really hope Evil Blond Shun's bastard ways are worth it), I'm about to watch Mr. Brain (GACKT as evil psychopath! I approve. I always said he looked like he ate virgins for breakfast.), and I've added BOSS to the list.

Jun. 4th, 2009 09:45 pmOkay, so confusion here - This is the blog entry that I thought said there would be 12 episodes of AtaDan, but dramawiki is listing it at 11. 7+5=12, unless the blog was including episode 7, in which case....
boo. Math makes me angry.
but really, 11? Come on, you're the team that made Hana Kimi! TWELVE.

NOW WHERE IS THE FIC, PEOPLE. I can't do everything myself.
This is spoileriffic for the most recent episode of Atashinchi no Danshi: 8, or "the one where Sho falls a lot, and fanservice, you can't handle this amount of fanservice."
There are many reasons to watch a drama - entertainment, escapism, a safe hour of catharsis to avoid thinking about the pressing realities in one's life, to get a crash course in a different culture, to lovingly (or not so lovingly) mock the deliciously bad and inane, to enjoy a good story told well --
or for the sheer pleasure of turning one's brain off and just basking in glorious eyecandy, whether the reason is deep or shallow, dramas are meant to be enjoyed.
And I haven't enjoyed a drama so much in such a long time as I have with the Littlest Hobo. I may love it even more than my ultimate summer happy love, Hanazakari no Kimitachi e, and that is saying a LOT, if any of you have been paying attention to my LJ for the past two years.
Atashinchi no Danshi is pure sunshine happiness in a lightning struck bottle. It takes a fairly standard situation comedy plot - lone girl adrift in a house full of boys, tweaks it so it becomes a bizarre Brady Bunchesque happening, and faster than you can say OH JAPAN, Atadan's mix of visual pun/slapstick/family humor + pathos has turned into a sweet (but not cloying) drama full of surprises and unexpected romance and heart. Even though there are serious traumas/issues associated with the characters, Atashinchi doesn't take itself seriously, and the humor keeps it afloat instead of a PSA about how the nuclear family has disintegrated. If there's social commentary, it's mostly by accident and in the background.
( 160+ reasons why I watch Atadan, and maybe you should too )
