Filling out two memes from
tinyangl and
cynicalism.
1. The year end wrap up. 2. The love and adoration meme.
1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Rent a van with strangers to drive from the airport to Albany, New York. No one died, vomited, and I got to experience a 82 year old war veteran boss around a 23 year old alterna-boy from Texas. Good times.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA. No, seriously. I stopped making new year's resolutions when I graduated high school. Anyway, the overwhelming arc of my life is to be happy, to cause happiness, and to further my inevitable plan to rule the world.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
The baby's due later this year, in spring. No, not my baby - I don't keep my private life that private.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
I went back to my homestate of NY and had a lot of terrible travel issues and met up with lovely people.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A purpose in life.
7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
August 28, 2009 - I quit the terrible, horrible, no good, awful, suck donkey balls job that was ruining my life.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Quitting my job. Taking the steps to achieve a dream, years in the making. Still keeping it on the DL but I will make a big post about it soon.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Taking responsibility for other people's short comings. Not being good at good byes. Regretting stupid mistakes. Taking rejection personally.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just the mild flu/cough kind.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Fuji Instamax Polaroid camera.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Everyone I love -I'm a trying and difficult person when I let myself break down and I know that, and I'm grateful for every one who's said that I don't have to try so hard and to let the inner Editor diaf.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Fandom at number one in a bullet, two - mine at fandom, three - both political parties, four - Roman Polanski supporters, five - a lot of things always makes me angry. It's what you do with that anger, if you can make something positive and constructive out of it, be able to laugh later (but not the Roman Polanski apologists. Fuck art. He violated a child.) I also think it's because for the things I'm fannish about currently, I happen to be at the older age of the spectrum and I approach things differently. That could just be a sign to me to get out and move on, which is always a wise idea. I think it's time I went back to reading books full time instead of communities and blogs. There are of course, exceptions to the rule.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Same place it always goes: food, Japanese magazines, art supplies.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The last few months of 2009 - when I met new people, and started to prepare for my Grand Adventure, 2010.
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
I haven't listened to the real radio in ages, except for NPR, so I always take crash courses on youtube. That said, despite Lady Gaga's grip on the masses, I found out about this song "Love Song Requiem" by Trading Yesterday in 2009. I could not stop playing it.
"She belongs to fairytales that I could never be."
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
happier
ii. thinner or fatter?
This is just an overall estimate of the weight I've gained past college graduation and a fluctuation of jobs, mind you - this isn't something I just put on in the past year, okay? So yes. I'm fifty pounds over weight and I am going to do something about it. (Actually, I would be fine with just losing thirty, but the 20 is an acknowledgment of my overachieving nature)
I am never going to be a stick. I don't want to be. But I need to be *fit*. And I'm not. So that needs to change.
iii. richer or poorer?
Poorer (being unemployed does that) financially, richer in terms of interaction with friends, old and new.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Cooking, writing, laughing, reading, going to gigs.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Staying in a rut, crying about things I had no control over
20.How will you be spending Christmas? How did you spend Christmas?
Saw Sherlock Holmes, came home and worked on my grammar module, checked my email, had a smallish feast with my mom, fired off text messages to near and dear ones.
21. What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2009?
Nothing. I remain the most kick ass, black hearted social misfit ever. And that's my official line.
22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Not with people.
23. How many one-night stands?:
Not with people.
24. What were your favorite TV programs?
The Simpsons, Leverage, The venture brothers, Community, American Dad (I don't even know how this happened. But Family Guy is more of a hit or miss for me?) As for Asian programs: Atashinchi no Danshi, Ninkyo Helper, 9 outs
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate is often a time consuming and pointless emotion. That said, I didn't hate anyone, but I fell into a labored, passive aggressive (which I'm ashamed about) vehement dislike with some people, but luckily for my sanity (and those around me, who had to hear about the bitching), I cut those people out of all aspects of my life.
26. What was the best book you read?
Looking at my goodreads list for 2009, I will go for the latter half and say North of Beautiful was the most enjoyable all round experience I had with a book.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Not a discovery, per se. I've always liked Epik High. But 2009, they put out some crazy good shit. The Teddy Loid remixes of Miyavi were pretty amazing, too.
28. What did you want and get?
I got nearly everything I wanted on my own list. Who knew hard work and perseverance actually worked?
29. What did you want and not get?
I waited too long and muji's online website ran out of the cranberry wool fingerless gloves that I had my eye on. Oh, my life is so hard. In less facetious things: Health insurance,
kitsune714 YES I KNOW, OKAY. PRETEND YOU DIDN'T READ THAT.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
That I watched this year? For sheer bloody mindedness but also horrified wonder - Sion Sono's Love Exposure. For theatrical release domestically - I loved the unabashed feel goodness of Pirate Radio.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?:
It's probably a bad sign to say I actually don't remember? I have never been accustomed to making a big deal about my birthday on the actual day - and it's only been the past few years that I was more about celebrating the entire month? I know I wished
amezri and
cynicalism happy birthday because OH YES, SEPTEMBER 3 IN THE HOUSE, BITCHES.
Looking back at my LJ entry for the first week -- aha, yes, naked Mukai Osamu ass. excellent.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Hearing my ex boss got fired for being the most incompetent dillweed that ever micromanaged. Sadly my bitterness only amuses people and doesn't actually move mountains.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
I'm not as young as I was but I'm not old enough to be wearing shoulder pads.
34. What kept you sane?
My darling girls and the gay boy posse.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Mukai Osamu. He cooks, he likes cats, he's well read, he doesn't seem to too thrilled with celebrity nonsense, he has beautiful hands, he djs in his spare time, he's tall, HI I LOVE YOU.
The only reason Yujin Kitagawa isn't number one is because he's married. Or engaged to be married, and I don't play that.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
How the Democrats and Republicans are continuing their childish games to kneecap each other and SHIT IS NOT GETTING PASSED OR DONE OR OH MY GOD, THIS IS AMERICA, WHY DON'T WE HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE.
37. Who did you miss?
My grandmother. Every year. And in a less morbid fashion, any one I didn't speak to/interact with enough.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
My friend S - she's moving back to Korea at the end of this month, and well. It's important.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
Forget about the tiny details (I know it's difficult, Virgo, BUT TRY) and focus on the bigger picture. Just because it doesn't happen now doesn't mean it's never going to happen. Be kinder, bitch.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
You're my heart heart heart heart breaker.
and now for the love and adoration meme: which is easy - reply to this post and I will tell you how immeasurably you have improved my life and why you are such an awesome little cupcake.
