I love Margaret Cho, and her blog is only one of the many reasons why -- check out "Not for the faint of the heart" and her eulogy to Elliot Smith on the front page, especially, and then "Yo, Arnold," "letter to god,"...oh hell. Read all of it, but definitely check it out.

the Spiderwick Chronicles made me stop and stare in the book aisle at Target. I think I actually had an orgasm right there - I adore the design and the font and the drawings and oh, it was like sitting in the library at age twelve again, and poring through all the pages. I didn't get it though -- I had to drop it regretfully for

Stop all the world now, the new album by Howie Day. I am, as they say, crazy in love with the earnestness, the soaring vibrancy of his second effort. It's a bigger, more expansive record that manages to contain the acoustic intimacy that was "Australia," but still feel like you could be humming these songs on a highway anywhere in the world, and the person in the next car to you would be singing along. My favorites are Brace Yourself [track 1], Collide [track 3], I'll take you on [track 4], and You & A Promise [track 9]. He's definitely going to show up in Get Recced, soon...

Speaking of music - can someone really just fill me in on the Kill Bill soundtrack? I haven't seen the film yet, but that's not going to stop me from getting the soundtrack first [I have quite a few number of soundtracks to films that I've never seen...and actually have no interest in seeing - cos the movie in my head is a lot more interesting. And because I'm a pretentious elitist whore.) A review, sound clips, whatever - I'd appreciate it.

And because it seems (this month, especially) that I can't post without mentioning Tom somewhere, somehow, I'm listening to his interview (that the beautous and excellent [livejournal.com profile] syzylynx sent me) from WBER and just marvelling at how much his music has come to meant to me in the past few years, and it sort of hit a plateau the past few weeks. I'm just now getting to know and get comfortable with the idea reality of Tom as a person, and a very funny and nice person, at that. I mean, I drop his surname and talk about him casually as Tom like we know each other, but not really. Anyway, I'm listening to this interview and it just really dawned on me that Tom is totally a guy I'd love to hang out with, just sit in a cafe somewhere and chat about everything and nothing, me systematically ripping my napkin into little white corpses and him stirring his coffee and remarking something pithy about the rain or whatever. We could mock everyone!

Le sigh. That's not going to happen anyway, but it's nice to entertain the bare glimpse of it.

And yes, the interview will be going up at tomination.ORG.

Everything's tinted a mild shade of orange today - last night everything was bathed in a silvery damp mist - almost if we were living in a fairytale Avalon.

But of course that's not it.

How much do I want to see this, and curse bitterly that I can't - because of homework committments and general reluctance to drive out to LA alone again, but ...GAH. The Kronos Quartet! Edward Gorey!

I'm going to be Death again (the first time was about two years ago, I think) this year, but it will be a lonely Halloween. I think that's what I'm really missing now from my non-friendship with Paul - the solid comforting knowledge that he was always there, whether by phone or just a drive away, and we could just do stuff together, even if it was just sitting on his couch and watching really awful television. Thanksgiving, Halloween...almost all the major holidays where the world expected families or whatever, and we could just do our own thing.

I'm getting all nostalgic about the good stuff, naturally. But I do remember the incredibly selfish, insecure fuck-headedness of these past months, so it's bittersweet.

I just wish I had a home.

I love the Spiderwick Chronicles! I don't think you'll find them at the library, but I just read them at Borders. They're a very quick read. I haven't had a chance to check out the third one yet, though.

And, this is silly, but I can't find the Elliot Smith eulogy at Margret's blog. Could you give me a direct link?

just scroll down

it's all on the front page of the blog..you just have to do the 'find' option using 'edit' in your top browser bar and type in "elliot smith" in the box and it'll get you right to the entry. (or scroll down ;) )

What does that MEAN? What are you wording her for? Her love of Margaret Cho? Her recommendations of the Spiderwick Chronicles and Howie Day? Her interest in the Kill Bill soundtrack? etc.etc.etc. Dude, she talked about a lot of stuff in that entry. You've gotta be specific. Or you could just think that every word from Saff is like some divine message. I understand that.

Or were you just drunk when you posted? *g*
Also, where have you beeeeeen?

Ooh. Pretty new children's books to procure. You're my own personal dealer, what with the music and the books and the general agreement on both. Have found that I like Tom McRae much more than Blur, actually, but I didn't think that you'd mind.

Was commenting in the first place, though, because I was feeling commiseration on the missing-just-having-that-friend-to-do-stuff-with feeling, that can get all heavy and draggy sometimes. Especially with those holidays like Halloween, where doing absent-minded, candy-coated nonstuff with those type of friends is the norm. *offers individual wrapped mini-chocolate*
