suffering from Peter Pan Syndrome? - is a write up of James Marsters' band, Ghost of the Robot, and some erstwhile James opinions. I found it deeply entertaining and hysterical, and as a past concert goer of both his solo and accompanied performances, I pretty much agree with all the statements posted. I'm glad I got out of it while I did - James is a sweet guy, but he's just a *guy*. Or more accurately, a very excited man-child.
I saw the Guru over the weekend - it's a fantastic modern fairy tale, with gender roles switched, a lot of fun dancing and music sequences, and who knew that Olivia Newton John's modern day equivalent is Heather Graham? Not I. Plus zinging one-liners and send ups of popular Asian stereotypes - M and I laughed like howler monkeys. Bend it like Beckham's trailer screens in front of it, so that was a bonus. Mini-rant: "Parents" (and I'm using air quotes) who take their very young children, pre-adolescent, Blues-Clues fan types to this movie and then complain about it being inappropriate are FUCKING IDIOTS AND NEED TO BE SLAPPED. It's a rated R film, and if you did the research, you would know that. Either hire a babysitter, or don't fucking go to the movie. Rant off.
Did I mention I am extremely intolerant of insane stupidity?
Back to the Guru: it's a film about sex, identity, the American dream, and Christine Baranski as an extremely scary socialite mother - the make up artist did a number on her - she looks like Leatherface, only in plasticine. Also, the melding of two cultures - Indian and American in the common bond of music and dance, was really well done, I thought - the color and vibrancy of the costumes and the way Jimi Mistry rolls his r's - I loved it all.
And because I believe in sharing:
People I want to sleep with, as of right now: Jimi Mistry, Margaret Cho, Jonathan Rhys Meyers (It's the hair cut. I swear.), Tom McRae, David Anders, T.R. Hummer, this boy John in my comedy class (I like his glasses), My Boyfriend, one of you, Diego Luna, Salma Hayek, Darcey Steinke..
You should see my cd list.
