I've just sort of belatedly realized that I'm going to be in New York Wednesday evening on a whirlwind holiday, so this weekend is going to be jam packed with packing, boring domestic stuff, and whatever I can come up with at 2 in the morning, inevitably pacing around the room as I've forgotten SOMETHING, OH MY GOD, WHAT.

Right, I'll be spending most of the week in Schenectady with my BFF, but I will be in the city on the 31st, and the 4th, via train. I haven't planned anything, other than I'm going to go to MOMA, Muji, Kinokuniya (it has LEVELS, the ones at home are all one floor) and whereever my friends drag me.

Suggestions for things to do in NYC are appreciated - I'm meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] cynicalism and [livejournal.com profile] tinyangl and...anyone else, I suppose. I'll be flying solo those two days in the city, so all help and directions are much appreciated, as I have been known to wander off into bookstores, record stores and toy shops and get lost.

One thing about the digital tv mandatory switch over that I appreciated - so many more varieties of Asian programming available, and for free! (Well, if you live in Southern California, where there is obviously a sizeable Asian and Pacific Islander presence.) Brilliant Legacy is airing on Channel 18, with english subtitles.

I don't think it's going to be my thing, after watching about 15 minutes (this is very early in the series - I think it's episode 1 or 2?) but it could just be the thought of having to watch 28 episodes (KOREA, NOTHING NEEDS TO BE 28 EPISODES LONG) of it. I'm sure there's character progression and such but right now, I'm not in the mood.

eta: best headline ever, OH YES, I THINK SO: Goat's crowning as King of Ireland in doubt.

I love the Irish - not as much as I love the Scots, but the Irish...man. That is a magical, magical place, and I'm not even being sarcastic.

Agreed! That's basically why I'm scared to watch cdramas, because 40 or 50 episodes?! Just the thought of it tires me out. Course I've watched 30-episode twdramas... Dude, did you ever watch Fated to Love You? That calculated out to 36 straight hours of drama...

Have fun in NYC! Unfortunately I cannot advise you on where to go. I've only been there like 3 times. I could tell you places to go in Boston, but that wouldn't be much help.

I will be in NYC July 31st, and August 4th - arriving at Penn Station at 2:35 pm on the 31st, and on the 4th, at 10:35 am. I like to walk, (window)shop, people watch, small hole in the wall restaurants - I've been to Time's Square, Grey's Papaya, this comic book shop I can't remember right off the top of my head, Serendipity's, Chinatown, Central Park, FAO Schwartz, Pearl paint, bits of Harlem and the Bronx ~ the only place I need to visit is MoMA, and I would like to pop into Muji, Kinokuniya, UNIQLO - other than that I'm up for anything and everything. :)

Ooh I can meet up with you any of those times, or whenever you are meeting up with Cyn and Kamika? Or otherwise. I know some small restaurants!! Or rather, they're more like ~novelty~ places. Like there's a fry place in St. Mark's with about 2589379 different kind of dips and...things like that! I don't know where Muji is but I do know where Kino and UNIQLO are! :D!

Have fun in NY with the BFFs. Take pictures, if you can! =D

Historical dramas are usually the ones to be freakishly long, so I tend to stay away from those...unless you know, it has my favorite actress in it. Let's skip to episode 215 where she first shows up! lol...

Either skip or skimming...Skim, stop at pretty boy, skim again, skip scenes with bitchy girl you don't like...stop at pretty boy again...yeah...I'm so bad...

ofc i'll take pictures

I took a ton the last time I was there, this time will be no different.

I don't mind a good historical, I just haven't had the time to watch one completely - I liked Atsuhime, and yes, I started watching more consecutive eps as soon as Maki showed up - but it was a pretty well done series.

Sometimes that's just how it works.
