so. it's been a running joke for me and my friends a while now about certain foods I cannot eat due to my ethnic heritage and biological makeup - ie, the famous Asian lactose intolerance kick. If you know me at all, you know I love the dairy - milk, cheese, ice cream...if it's bound to be fattening, good for your bones, makes a sandwich that much better, I'm all over it.

I would drink my milk, eat my rocky road, and pile slices of swiss and cheddar on my turkey sandwich and thumb my nose at my genes - "ha ha ha, lookit at me! DAIRY! BEAUTIFUL, LIFE-GIVING DAIRY!"

But lately, over the past few years, I've stopped drinking milk. It used to be one glass a week, now I haven't touched the stuff in months - not even for my cereal (what do you mean you're not supposed to eat it right out of the box?). My mother, on her various diet-for-life kicks, will smuggle the ice cream in and out of our freezer at bizarre intervals, it's mostly a luck of the draw if I open the left partition and "Surprise! You've got Icecream!" instead of "Surprise! You've got huge hunks of frozen meat and soup stock!"

The one constant in my life has been cheese.

I ate an ice cream bar earlier today. My stomach responded by squeezing upon itself and sent stabbing cramps out.

This is the first time that it's happened. I don't know if it's a one time fluke thing, or if this is going to happen every time I partake of the evil frosty goodness.

All I know is that you're going to have pry a block of monterey jack out of my cold, dead, hands.

in other news - I'm going to get DSL this week.

it's the frosty evil calling to you

I don't know what else to say but that you have a gift. I just read a post on your history with dairy foods and was left wanting more.

Thank you.

Sometimes I feel like crawling into a cave and just not leaving it except to go to the record store - words are hard and beautiful and sometimes unneccesary, but they've always been there for me, and I'm glad it amused you.

:)
