A brief capsule of what went on for my memorial day weekend - thanks to the glory that is PBS, I found out that the annual Scottish Highland Games were going down at a fairground near me, so I dragged Shar with me (as she is my official Scotland buddy) out on Saturday and we had a grand old time strolling among all the clans and seeing the tartan and the different kilts - some in traditional, some in rather swanky modern khaki/utilitarian/survival camo kilts. I had a Sheperds' pie (because I have issues with haggis) and Shar had a bangers and crisps, and we visited the vendors and OH I MISS UK CANDY. The mark up/exchange rate was kind of PAINFUL, though, so I managed to keep it to just getting an Aero bar, some fruit pastilles, and a Cadbury fruit and nut. I also bought an IRN BRU because there's something about that bubble gum not quite orange flavour that makes me miss ...well, everything, honestly.
There was caber tossing and bagpipe bands and lots of green and it was a splendid way to spend an afternoon. Afterwards, Shar and I caught the most recent Indiana Jones adventure. As a not quite afficionado of the franchise - I can never remember which Indy I've seen, only that it probably involved Nazis, or that kid from the Goonies. And monkey brains - so this fourth outing was pretty much all I expected, though there might have been in-jokes that totally went over my head.
Saturday night was less amusing as I had to help replant a tree in the dark pitch of moonlight because my mom had gotten into her head that serious gardening means under the cover of darkness and with very few implements like rope or pullies or Other People Who are Better At This than we are - but through sheer brute force and complaining, we managed to roll and drag a tree with it's roots still covered in dirt over to a new site.
Sunday was lazy and awesome, as I spent most of it watching terrible (yet awesome) Asian movies with
kitsune714 and doing MST3K on them.
And today? Today I have vast quantities of fried food, and teriyaki beef.
Good times.
