Daniel, Daniel, Daniel.
DANIEL RADCLIFFE, STOP IT, OR I'M TELLING YOUR MOTHER.
My god - he's totally like this alternate universe mini-elijah wood, with the hate on for pop music and the overwhelming EEEEEEE!RECORDGEEKHIGHFIDELITY!INDIEROCKNROLLELITISTSNOB mentality for louder, faster, harder rock music. It's totally ADORABLE. Seriously, though - there's an indie rock uniform and he seems to be wearing it. It's very endearing on him probably because he's 14, and not ....totally wankeriffic at twenty or so (yes, I'm looking at you, Mr. Wood.) I can't wear it because I love trashy glam rock music too much and because I cheerfully admit to going through phases like anyone else with ears.
Myself, I love the stripes, while I would cheerfully set fire to the Strokes and the Libertines, and I agree with him on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (so that's why he goes for Brody over Karen O). However, he is doing pop music a disservice. Possibly because pop as we know it is the stuff that's on the top charts with the dancers and the questionable footwear and the choreographed moves and very gimmicky plastic sounding (any more breathy baby hiccup overly produced machine beats and I will go on a killing rampage) and while maybe 5% of it is actually good....the rest of it's crap. No, pop music to me is something more clever and ambiguous than just a bad love song. The Beatles were pop music - now they're classic rock.
Hmmm. Can't see the love for the Sex Pistols either - I prefer the Clash, the Ramones, and the Small Faces over them.
No, Dan needs to be introduced to new wave and the troubadour - he namechecked Morrissey, he needs to listen to the Auteurs and the Smiths and GOD, HE NEEDS TO LISTEN TO PJ HARVEY. SHE COULD KICK ALL THOSE OTHER GUY'S ASSES. (and Tom! Though Tom would probably be too MOR for him....heee, but what about all the DEATH AND KILLING?)
OMG! MERCURY REV! Stop. Must. Stop with the rabid craziness. Am too old for this.
And this has been another presentation of Masterpiece Theater.....good night.

Date: 2004-06-02 08:16 pm (UTC)I am a little concerned though that if he's into music like this now, what will he be listening to when he's 20? Like the craptastic music phase is inevitable and suddenly 6 or 7 years down the road he catches himself buying Puddle of Mudd or Linkin Park CDs or something. [/crazy paranoia hoping Dan never loses his music tastes]

Date: 2004-06-03 02:42 pm (UTC)Glory, glory, hallelujah. I'm back. You probably don't remember me, but I was a poor LJ-less lurker you gave a code to, way back last year, and due to unfortunate circumstances, aka REAL LIFE, I was forced to cut my ties with LJ and the fanworld. But now, summer is upon us and I'm ready for a full reintegration. God help us all. So many fics missed, so many snarks unread, so many people to re-stalk, so little time.
Ok, enough annoying ramblage. I must agree with the almost uncanny Elijah Wood similarities. And also: your music tastes remain spectacular. As do your words.
Is it bad that the picture scared me a little?
hey you.

He's just pulling the teenage rockstar poses. I think they're meant to be funny, if anything else.
