The Littlest Hobo, man. For when you've gorged on angst pie one too
many times, this is a sweet hit of liquid sunshine and glee. And also
puppies. Because episode five is cuter than a room full of fat puppies,
tumbling orange marmalade kittens and BABY PANDAS OMG combined. Would I lie
to you?

Or sell you something with outrageous amounts of hyperbole?

Possibly.

But no, in all seriousness Atashinchi no Danshi episode 5 rocks my socks and
then some. For now I can also yell, "What the FUU?" at the monitor. Fuu is
the name of the eldest son (played by Kaname Jun) and clearly it is
always the littlest things that amuse me.

"Chisato-san has a policy of never going into prostitution!"

Oh Day-glo (Day-glo is the nickname of the blonde netcafe manager that has a
otaku-heroine-worship crush on Chisato, because I can't remember his real
name at present. But Day-glo will do in a pinch), how your words will come
back to haunt you.

Because after Fuu drops the bomb, (What the Fuu, indeed.) the Ookuras kick
Chisato out of the castle and she has to pay back the 100 million yen
still, and so she wanders into a hostess club...

only to be thwarted by a giant stampeding horde of her otaku minions, every
one of them crossdressed in a feminine ideal (and also for maximum comedy).
Day-glo yells that she can't and Chisato is clearly at a low point if she's
resorting to working at a hostess club. The minions protest that they'll
work in her place (That is some crazy kind of devotion, y'all.) and Chisato
bluntly points out that erm, thanks, but some of you are kind of fug, and I
kind of need this money NOW.

Heiji (mini-Eita) proposes a new solution - that Chisato scouts and digs up
an onsen site and get the money that way, because apparently development of
onsens is an extremely lucrative business deal.

And on cue, all of Chisato's homeless friends say, hey, get us some of
that action.

Back at the castle, all the boys are eating ramen, because as soon as mama
is gone, nutrition clearly goes right out the window. And also clothes,
because it seems like half of the episode is devoted to them going in and
out of the sauna. Satoru is angrily!prioritizing! and googling for hiking
sites on the internet, Takeru gets his bike messenger job back, Akira
wanders around parks and wonders why all the other kids won't play with him
because he's so awesomesauce (and his little tie!), Sho pokes around in
Chisato's old room, and Masaru debates a job offer where he has to *gasp*
conduct an interview with a GIRL.

Meanwhile, Fuu rubs his hands in glee and plots.

I'm not really sure what's going on with Fuu, really - but he's as unnerved
by the magically appearing Lawyer (not to be confused with the Deux Machina
School Girl of TRUE LOVE) as everyone else, and hands her the last letter he
received from his late father. The game is afoot, Watson!

Satoru gets a suspiciously heavy suitcase to deliver, and it turns out it is
full of dynamite. Say it with explosions, not a pink slip!

Day-glo decides to go plead Chisato's case at Trick Heart Castle, only to be
apprehended by Inoue-san and dragged into the house with a bag over his head
and his wrists restrained. Sho listens to what he has to say and Chisato's
deal with Shinzo-san and her history gets revealed.

Chisato gets called away from her onsen project by the daikon farmer who's
helped her out previously, and it turns out he's set up an intervention of
sorts - he's mediating a meeting with her deadbeat father. It goes about as
well as one expects, only Chisato actually manages to get her hands around
her dad's neck - that's right, in this drama, terrible parents actually get
some kind of comeuppance instead of Karma thrust at them. All those terrible
drama parents you wished you could smack around? Yeah, AtaDan goes there,
kind of.

The Ookuras come home to a note from Sho and a recording of Day-glo's
confessional and they realize that ummmm, maybe kicking Chisato out was not
the most fair thing to do and are instantly remorseful. They decide to help
her in her quest.

Also, in episode five, the crushing on Chisato angle has totally flowered.
One could almost say....in full bloom.

(snaps if you get the reference)

Because now, Satoru's not even being SUBTLE about his crush on Chisato, and
his crush manifests itself in reacting rather violently when he sees any of
his brothers touching Chisato in a seemingly non platonic fashion. Guess
being a shut-in for so long hasn't really helped in his emotional
development, but since AtaDan is a comedy, the violence is played for
slapsticky laughter, and not you know...worrying shojo violence as a
declaration of MY!ETERNAL!LOVE! for you
*cough*HanaYoriDango*cough*Seriously,the
dynamicsofsomeshojoisseriouslyfuckedup*cough*cough*

Because Takeru has discovered a use for his suitcase full o'dynamite - he'll
blow up the site so it's easier to dig for an onsen!

Chisato trips and falls while they're running away from the site, and Takeru
runs back to shield her body from the blast of dynamite. He sprawls himself
on top of her, and when the smoke clears, Satoru comes back and sees the
situation and totally flips out - high kicking Takeru into the next
frame.

The onsen scheme turns out to be a bust, and while the homeless have been
helping Chisato, someone's been packing up all of their belongings and tents
and lean-tos, and now they really are homeless and everyone's all
distraught, and it turns out Masaru is giving some kind of interview to
publicize the area? I am not sure, this is when giri giri soft subs will
really help out on Sunday.

Anyway, Masaru's done good, and Chisato runs and practically leaps into his
arms with jubilation, and you know, Masaru's absolutely thrilled,
because earlier in the episode he was moping that maybe Chisato-san doesn't
really "love him exactly as he is" (oh Bridget. Mark Darcy loves you best!)
and is he doomed to be creepy Masaru forever and what's the point
of being beloved by women everywhere if his fake mama don't love
him
?

You know. One of those soliloquies.

But Masaru's joy is short-lived because Takeru, Satoru and Akira dogpile on
him enmasse and start beating him up in that affectionate way brothers do.
You know, with knees to the groin and stuff.

Chisato stands back and laughs delightedly at the sounds of children
scuffling. Yeah, she's totally still oblivious to Feelings around her.

The ending of the episode is complete win.

My keyhole buffered too much that i could barely see anything *__*
To be honest, I totally didn't expect Satoru, because hey Mukai the main supporting lead, the right one! but again it's too soon to say, but right now I'm enjoying little too much these crushing that I can't even complain XD

Btw, where did you watch it online? CB will take me more than 6hours to finish :((

Oh, this was a winner.

Back at the castle, all the boys are eating ramen, because as soon as mama
is gone, nutrition clearly goes right out the window.
I don't even want to think about what they ate before mama came and they got sick of ramen.

Also, in episode five, the crushing on Chisato angle has totally flowered.

HOSNAP. In a good way. The extent of their crushing is a nice surprise, for me. I mean, with HanaKimi I already had expectations from reading the manga, but with AtaDan it's like a treat every time they insert Chisato-crushing. <3

And LOL at all your nicknames. You know every week I tell myself to wait for Giri Giri? Because I have more than enough to watch without watching a drama twice. And every week, I cave so bad.

twice?

I've already rewatched my favorite parts of this five times over, and the preview for episode six!

The rewatchability factor of an AtaDan episode is key.

clearly, nowhere near enlightenment yet

Twice is a lot for me! I can be quite impatient with dramas--and I'm watching a million other things too. Presumably, I also have a day job, but nobody ever mentions that...

That said, I couldn't count with one hand the number of times I've re-watched an entire drama, Ryusei no Kizuna and HanaKimi included. AtaDan is heading thataway.

Twice is a lot for a lot of dramas, I agree. I'm on my lunch break at my day job, sooooo.....

I'm only watching Atadan & Smile precisely so I don't get drama fatigue (though Smile 3 subbed is nowhere to be found apparently. I wonder if the fansub team realized that it was superlame and couldn't go on? Ahem.)
