from everywhere~
Maki and Sho Sakurai (ARASHI, Kisarazu Cat's Eye) are going to be in the new winter drama from TBS, Tokujo Kabuchi! They're playing two squabbling public notaries - Sho's character is an idealistic, defender of the people type who is constantly at odds with Maki's character - a former Yankee who smokes, is a poor loser, and is ruthlessly efficient at her job.
Sho's character is said to be M (herbivore) while Maki's is S (carnivore), and already, the in jokes write themselves - the S X M couple.
I hope they do the banter ala screwball comedies because really, public notaries? And based on a manga, again. Still - Maki's moving on from her haunted school girl/sweet comedienne/tragic orphan typecast (and again, Japan, why haven't you given me my Maki Meisa NINJA EXTRAVAGANZA?) past and it would not be a terrible thing if she emulated Ryoko Shinohara's career path, I'm just saying.

Although the actual genre doesn't interest me as much, I'm still looking forward to this (mostly the bantering between the two that will ensue). iOno how much they can do on public notaries though lol.
awww, that's sweet of you

I love the two of them, and when they work together, it's always sparky spark. And I'm kind of annoyed at the trend in fandom now that is keeping them typecast, as if Meisa's the only one to go to for badassness and she can't do anything else and that Maki is always going to be the good girl (read fandom scorn: bland girl) or tragic orphan, but fandom sucks anyway, so nevermind.
:D
Public notaries certainly do not top my list of interesting topics to base a drama around, but if the writing is good enough and it's as funny as the manga is touted to be, I am willing to invest my time to watch it.

Date: 2009-11-15 07:39 am (UTC)You read my mind. Typecasting always gets me so frustrated when I watch dramas/movies. Hopefully this will mark a new path for Maki's acting career. My dream drama would be for Maki and Meisa to play badass cops/partners trying to solve a string of serial murders that have been rampaging all over Tokyo. Sadly, I don't think I'll ever get to see that happen. If it doesn't, I'll take things into my own hands and become a script writer in Japan lol! I'll even write your Maki/Meisa Ninja Epic to make your dreams come true xD
Hopefully, this drama is full of the foolishness that I miss from HanaKimi and the awesomeness that AtaDan had.
