a few highlights from my holiday so far:

1. Ewan Macgregor walked past me on Charing Cross/Shaftesbury Ave. Attempted not to gawp like a tourist.

2. Went on a Jack the Ripper tour. It was very gorey and theatrical and perfect on a blustery, cold night.

3. Apparently missed the good weather by a whole week. It will probably be sunshine and puppies after I leave.

4. British Museum yesterday, along with Forbidden Planet. Today will be National Portrait Gallery and maybe the V&A and definitely Harrods.

5. If I am a very good girl, I could coax my friends to a cream tea.

6. Saw Hot Fuzz in Dublin, and Becoming Jane in Glasgow.

7. Edinburgh. Blond man tapping on the window, pointing at my hair and mouthing, "fantastic hair" and giving me the thumbs up outside our hostel.

8. Marks & Spencer's cookies

9. Strolling through Theaterland, and seeing the poster for Equus.

10. Seeing Wicked.

I miss you lot, and I have laundry, HYD, and fic to catch up on. Oh and work. Bleh. I wish to be kept in the lifestyle I am now accustomed to!

He was in an advert before Becoming Jane at the theater, and suddenly now I understand why he doesn't speak more often.

Am in London now, took a Jack the Ripper walk last night (the guide absolutely relished in going over the gorey bits), I think I may have a touch of the plague that's settled over D, I'm about to have a full English breakfast, and I saw Ewan Macgregor go past me on Charing Cross/Shaftsbury outside of Angels in Full Costume (possibly not the name, but WHATEVER, Ewan Macgregor!)

To balance out this giddiness, I also paid roughly 20 dollars (after conversion) for issue 24 of Runaways. Why? Because I am STUPID.

Psst, [livejournal.com profile] amezri, I did go to Forbidden Planet yesterday, and I kind of went a little ...shop happy.

I will say no more, except that I might go and buy the Penguin of Death today.

Jesmond Hotel is absolutely lovely, and the receptionist looks like Tim from the Office.

So, I'm 75% packed, have half of my room cleaned, and just have a few essential errands to do/pack for before Wednesday. My plan is after I touch down in London on Thursday, if I'm not too jet lagged - meet up with Kelly and the other AIFS people and just have a chat. Friday - cram a lot of walking, museums (Natural History a must), East End looking, Pride & Prejudice viewing, Berwick Street, Harrods food hall souvenir shopping (Best of British? You don't say.), and meet [livejournal.com profile] treehavn. Saturday is more of the same, except then I get my [livejournal.com profile] littlemissloony and girly things (and yes dear, I need your mobile number again) and then TOM TOM TOM TOOOOOOM. And if things about a Boy get resolved, that'd be nice too.

Sunday, wake up super early so can get on early tube to Heathrow and then wait until noon when I *sob* leave the country and then come home to Shar's surprise birthday party.

I think I might get about ten hours of sleep overall, but I'm looking forward to it.

People who are on [livejournal.com profile] pet_duncan make sure to stir up some conversation/threads after the premiere airs, even if it's to post about how cute Teddy is. Seriously, the donut needs love.

Other than that, I promise lots of posting and pictures when I get back, and if I find time to check out in a internet cafe, from London as well.

Ah, that Tom. *beams*

NEXT WEEK!

Apparently the Emmys were on last night, but I missed it because I was watching Family Guy. Everytime I think they wouldn't possibly go there, they do. THE GILMORE GIRLS SKIT. I <3 this show.

I could have sworn Daniel Palladino actually had a hand with FG in the earlier seasons, but....priceless.

I'm not going to have a phone when I'm over in London...nor bring my laptop (I'm only going to be gone for three days - plus I need the room for Lush presents!), but I know there's internet access at the Generator, and an all night cafe at Tottenham court - so if anyone needs to get in contact with me, just send me an email. This applies especially to [livejournal.com profile] littlemissloony and [livejournal.com profile] treehavn - I need to know when to meet up and where. Jocelyn! Tooooom! With Cello Oli and new boy Gary Sanctuary! And a bassist and a DRUMMER. SO. EXCITED.

And maybe that other guy, too. Haven't heard from him yet.

So the plan is this: Tom is playing a London gig with a full backing band on October 1st, 2005 which is a Saturday. It's at Sheperd's Bush.

[livejournal.com profile] monimala and I plan to be at that gig. Here comes the fun part - planning.

I've checked expedia.com and hotwire.com and so far the cheapest roundtrip from me to London (sorry Twinkie, in order for me to afford this trip at all, I won't be able to pick you up in NY after all) is $737 from Virgin Atlantic, and $695 on a red-eye flight from hotwire.com. Seasoned travelers, are there cheaper flights/tips? I knew I should have booked last month, when the prices were about 200 dollars cheaper, but I was afraid. But now I am determined to go.

ETA: Orbitz.com has the Virgin Atlantic flight at 5:30 PM on Thursday for $729 dollars, and I'd get there at 11:45 a.m. on Friday morning.

eta2:with STA travel, it's $632 dollars roundtrip if I leave on a Wednesday, and I'd get there on an afternoon on Thursday.

this is just becoming a very sources-ridden post for London, is it not? )
