finished watching Smile, episode 1, raw, as it is the other drama I'm watching this spring season. I will watch it again with subs, certainly, but for now, a tongue in cheek review/first impression

[16:32] [livejournal.com profile] kitsune714:you know, shibasaki kou at least attempted sign language.
[16:32] [livejournal.com profile] calledinvain: yeah.
[16:32] [livejournal.com profile] kitsune714: maybe jun has powers.
[16:32] [livejournal.com profile] calledinvain: but you know what? i'm not holding my  breath for racial sensitivity or anything resembling 'A UNIVERSAL LOVE STORY.'
[16:33] [livejournal.com profile] calledinvain: right now, i'm playing the game of HEY IT'S THAT GUY.
when the world smiles.....wait, where are you going? )

Two super-lawyers, deux-ex-schoolgirl (the age difference between Yui Aragaki's character and Matsujun's character kind of makes me go...uhhhhh), OGURI SHUN, and Matsujun's delicious caramel tan will certainly keep me amused for another two episodes, I feel.

Meanwhile, in the Littlest Hobo: the family that superglues together, stays together. And Yusuke is a ridiculously good scene stealer.

Thus completes Shun's unconditional non stop plan to take over all of Tokyo.

Shun vs. Mothra. WHO WINS.

Sent to you by e. saffron via Google Reader: Sky PerfecTV to run Oguri marathon via Tokyograph on 6/26/08

Popular actor Shun Oguri will get even more attention next month, when satellite channel Sky PerfecTV! runs a month-long "festival" featuring 25 of his works. The channel plans to broadcast not only movies, such as his recent "Crows ZERO," but also television dramas from as far back as 1999.

Oguri remarked that viewers will have a chance to see his progress over nearly a 10-year-span.

I watched Crows Zero and Kurosagi: the Movie. In a fight who wins?

Oguri Shun, that's who. C:0 was just the more satisfying movie on nearly every level.

Depending on how it goes in episode 6, I think I'm going to put Zettai Kareshi on hold, as I really can't take any more of Riko at the moment, and I'm on Team Robot. Hiro Mizushima however, is still awesome.

Last Friends is still great even though I find myself mentally fast forwarding anything to do with Michiru and Sousuke, which is probably not what the producers intended.

I'm still waiting on subs for Kimi Hannin Janai! even though the plot is pretty thin and repetitive and it's ridiculously easy to find out who the perp is in every case, something about Kaname Jun and Kanijya Shihori's hijinks continue to amuse. She's just so bemused at how stupid, oblivious he is, it makes me cackle in recognition. Because really. Kaname Jun gives great idiot face.

And then there's Ai Nante Irane Yo, Natsu, which I picked up because it has Hirosue Ryoko and Tatsuya Fujiwara in it - I discovered Hirosue through this quirky little movie about what rock and roll means - Iden & Tity, using the lyrics of Bob Dylan, and she has this very calming presence on screen. And just because I'm interested in seeing what Tatsuya is like outside of his stage roles - which, incidentally, his Romeo is hilarious to watch, because the enunciation and shouting at the same time? GREAT FACES.

and this bit of news from tokyograph:

"Shibatora," a manga written by Tadashi Agi (under the pen name Yuma Ando) and illustrated by Masashi Asaki, is being turned into a live-action series this summer. The popular comic currently runs in Weekly Shonen Magazine and has so far sold 420,000 volumes.

The comical story revolves around a young-looking detective named Taketora Shibata (nicknamed Shibatora). Because of his appearance, he is able to easily blend in with the juvenile delinquents he deals with on a regular basis.

Tsuguaki Tatematsu, the Fuji TV producer in charge of planning for the series, said that after reading the comic, his only choice for the lead role was WaT's Teppei Koike. Koike happily agreed to play the part, which will be his first time starring in a television series.

Nikkan Sports reports that Suzuka Ohgo will play the heroine, while Muga Tsukaji (of Drunk Dragon) plays a former genius hacker. Miki Maya and Daisuke Miyagawa play Shibatora's co-workers. Tsukaji's comedy partner, Taku Suzuki, is also in the cast, along with Koji Imada as a guest actor.

Fuji TV will air the drama on Tuesdays at 9:00pm, starting in July.

Suzuka Ohgo! Yay! And I like Teppei.

Also, I find it hilarious that Kimura Takuya's Change couldn't unthrone Gokusen 3's opening episode. Even though I'm not watching Gokusen 3 (3 too many), Yankumi toasted Kimura Takuya. (and Abe Hiroshi! D:)
